1. Abbey Lee Portrait

I just sent a PDF off to my teacher which had about five versions of this?
I had her close up, on a bed, laying in a bath, sitting up in a bath…. none of them seemed quite right. I finally figured out this composition last night which is the strongest, would have liked to work on it more but that’s the way deadlines go.

On the plus side I am getting to incorporate my traditional techniques more and more lately, painting roses with watercolor is so much more relaxing than on a computer screen!

  2. Little Black Book Zine

Sorry to everyone who has to see this on all your social media!
As a fundraising project every second year student in our course had to produce 100 black and white zines, and these are mine.

Little Black Book is a small collection of charcoal and watercolor drawings that I created of an anonymous brunette babe. They are all hand cut, folded, numbered and signed. As an extra cute detail I made little slips to keep them shut on pearly card stock.

You can pick one up in my online store for 5 bucks!

  3. Tegan & Sara / Spook Magazine

I got to have a fun break from coursework this week when my lovely friend Sarah over at Spook Magazine hooked me up with doing an illustration for Tegan and Sara to celebrate their new album Heartthrob. I did the same thing last year for Kate Miller Heidke and the response was great so I was so excited to get to draw for an international act this time.

My illustration is based on the song ‘Now I’m All Messed Up’ and Tegan supplied a short paragraph on what the song was about to help me out, noting the significance of where who’s sheets you leave your makeup on.  I thought this idea was so beautiful that I drew one of my signature ladies and incorporated some grungy mascara smeared/diary scribble inspired design to fit the single cover template.

This project was really fun, I feel so lucky to be able to get cool things to work on from time to time and get to call it work!

You can read the interview and artist statements on the Spook website.

  4. Illustre 2013 Wood Panel I

    image

Every artist in our graduate exhibition has created a double sided mixed media piece on wood, and together will form a unique puzzle of interlocking artworks. This is the front of my first attempt, I say that because I have elected to re-do the assignment in my own time with something better.

    Just not feeling this one.

  5. Villian Online Blog Feature

    image

I got a lovely email today from the editor-in-chief of Villian Magazine linking me to a short blog post they published featuring some work I did for the mag.
Such a nice surprise after spending holidays cooped up doing assignments,
it can be found on their blog here.

  6. Villian Magazine April 2012

I just popped over to villianmagazine.com this morning to have a peek through their debut issue, which just happens to feature one of my little drawings in it.

Villian’s (pronounced vil-uhn) gorgeous first issue will definitely live up to your expectations, it contains the most beautiful editorials and carefully put together content from some of the best in the industry. I was scrolling through the pages for hours! Very honored to have my work featured in the beauty section, hope you lovelies enjoy issue one.

  7. Things have been busy. I’m not allowed to share much of the work I’ve been doing lately until it comes out, so here is a sneaky teaser from my zine. It’s called ‘Little Black Book’ and this cheeky A3 poster hides inside!

I get my first run of 100 from the printers this week, fingers crossed everything went to plan.

  8. Been trying to steer my projects towards building on my commercial portfolio (when I can). This illustration has just been sent off for a potential client to look at, fingers crossed she likes it!

  9. A cute snap of my workplace from late 2011, it’s a bit lovely how naive I was concerning illustration then. I am grateful that I have since found my feet a little, and yes…I now work on a mac haha!

  10. The line work on this illustration was constructed in a program called flash which is primarily used for animation. I tried to imitate my traditional ink strokes using different line weights and later was allowed to do insert some of my watercolor textures using Photoshop. I’m starting to appreciate digital a lot more by finding out ways to retain the handmade look the finished illustrations.

  11. This little set was designed to fit an editorial that discusses media stereotypes. The main illustration and two spots were the first time that I got to experiment with inks. I’ve been favoring traditional mediums lately, their unpredictable nature often forces my piece to have a life of it’s own and it’s lovely to watch it develop as I work.

  12. Reposted from my friend Brittany.

I experimented with painting in ink using different nibs yesterday, it’s quite challenging and unpredictable. Typography turns out especially lovely though. I gave it to her to use as a bookmark :)

  13. Hey lovelies,

*Winner’s must have ‘liked’ Art by Sharni Brear on facebook to receive their prizes. Just a little something for you guys and your ongoing support <3

You have 8 days to enter, good luck xx

  14. Little preview of something I’m doing for fun, the traditional half is almost complete. Cara is devine, the reference photo was so striking I wanted to do my own version of it.

  15. Started my new moleskine! Some mindless drawing while talking on the phone turned into a double Abbey Lee pen study. She’s so otherworldly, I could draw her a million times over and not get bored.
